On this same topic:

I recall a trombone professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania during
the '60s who had studied with the late great Emory Remington of the Eastman
School - and who had played (I was told) with some of the great swing
bands. He could produce and greatly vary his vibrato without any visible
effort EXCEPT his diaphragm. I have tried to emulate that; but I really
don't have the training in physiology to know if that's what is happening.
