What a nice change from the War of the 'Tonys'!

I would be interested in hearing the reactions of others to Legere reeds.
I have tried only two, so far [they are $20 each here...N Ireland]
I am using a Portnoy #3 m/p, the 3 1/2 was too soft, and the #3 3/4 was too
hard.
But they are by far the best 'synthetic' reed I have tried and I intend to
continue experimenting with them because
the tone quality is, IMO, at least as good as that of a good cane reed. The
only dawback I have found is that they are tiring to play. I have, therefore,
despite instructions to the contrary, sanded the stronger reed in an effort
to overcone this. As a result I have a reed which now plays freely over the
entire compass, beautifully in the chalumeau register and over the break but
lacking a fortissimo in the clarion register and above, due no doubt to my
'adjustments'.
I feel fairly certain that Legere have got a satisfactory material and hope
that they can be encouraged to develop the grading procedure further. I would
be very interested if anyone else has tried 'adjusting' these reeds.
