This evening, after a rather demanding day, I arrived home and did not
kick the cat, did not berate the resident teenager, did not dig away at
some active emotional wound that necessarily accompanies a long marriage.
Instead I got on this list and am calling all of you "A pack of
slobbering idiots".
There, I feel better already.
You may be gravely insulted by my assertion. I however, have the choice
to not respond to your indignation. I shall instruct my students to play
only "Artly" clarinets. I will demand stock mouthpieces and "Semetricut"
reeds for all. I will think "Nyah..ha..ha".
Or....Understand this: This forum [the Klarinet list] allows a free for
all flow of ideas. The occasional cuss alarms me far less than the
pandering to newcomers by the intellectually feeble. [Side note.. In my
town most 12 year olds use far more colorful language than any experienced
here. I believe we can get across what we we wish to say without it.
However, protection of the innocent youth is hardly a concern in my view.]
If I were to chose a visiting artist to speak to my students from
contributers on this list it would be Mr. Pay. I continue to shake my head
about an episode more than a year ago when he advocated trying to lift the
level of dicussion on this list and was summarily dumped on.
Do we exist to find comfort in our ignorance or to strive to learn and do
better?

Dan
