I recently attended a concert in which Richard Stolzman played the Copland
Concerto. While he moved around quite a bit, it appeared genuine -- an
expression of how he was not just playing but playing WITH the music, and a
exhortation to the audience to share his enjoyment. It was effective in
this case, but it might not work nearly as well in, say, the Mozart
concerto, and might be downright out of place in a chamber work.
