Best not attempted, in a way. If you mean by 'explain how', 'give a
*scientific* explanation of', then I can't say anything in detail. If
you mean by 'explain how', 'tell me what position of the tongue has what
effect', then I'm almost equally stuck.

The effect of the tongue on playing isn't anything like as strong as the
effect of the tongue on speech, because the sound generator in playing
is downstream of the tongue. Still, doing with the tongue while playing
what you do with it when you whisper has the effect of making the sound
more 'whisper-like'.
