When I got this back from the list, it looked a bit funny to me, as an
appreciation of Abe's musically insightful suggestion -- almost as
abrupt as the ending to the second piece that he was talking about.
Sorry about that, Abe.

Looking back on performances of this piece, it seems to me that I myself
mostly *do* do a very slight diminuendo on the last note, but then end
more abruptly than normal, as you suggest.

And, to connect it to the other thread, about support, I haven't mostly
followed Abe's suggestion of 'just stopping blowing' (which is a very
good one that I'll certainly try, because it's what we almost never do,
and so it's bound to be a surprise).

What I've done instead is to imagine the note stopping in this 'just
like that!' way, and my diaphragm brakes it to a halt automagically,
while my abdominal muscles (and in fact all the rest of my body as well)
stay immobile. (And not relaxed, by the way.)
