Stravinsky's Rite of Spring

The end of this piece is very tricky. There are loads of 5/16 and 7/16.
The conductor has a big task to indicate the inner divisions of these
bars.
The 7/16 are usually 2/3/2 or 2/2/3 or 3/2/2.
I used to put a V for the two and triangle for the three under the
divisions.
Bernstein thought this one out and decided to make an experiment. He
wrote the whole ending in a simple rhythm and put in the appropriate
accents.
It worked fine and he decided to do a performance of this with this
innovation.
Stravinsky was present at the concert and went up to Bernstein and told
him that this was the best performance of the piece he ever attended.
"Maestro" said Bernstein and told of the way it was done.
Stravinsky turned away and wouldn't talk to Bernstein.
