I'm not surprised. Fortunately, we don't need to know the explanation
in order to use support effectively. I don't know how old your daughter
is -- perhaps she'd be able to handle the explanation -- but it would be
unwise to confuse a younger child with the technicalities, unless he/she
had a specially well-developed interest in such things.

Oh. Perhaps she did have such a well-developed interest. Did she think
that the diaphragm was 'vertically mounted' rather than 'horizontally
mounted'? Just correcting that assumption might have been enough.

The full/empty Mac 'dustbin' icon is quite a good visual image of how
putting stuff in at the top results in lateral displacement:-)
