The current professor of clarinet at North Texas State University, Jim
Gillespie, did his doctorate on the subject of music with clarinet and
voice, and I remember seeing a vast list of repertoire much of which he
performed with his wife who is a singer.

The most important aspect of Gillespie's research was the realization
that music for clarinet and voice was a social phenomenon in England
where courting couples played a great deal of such music, the woman
being the singer, the man the clarinettist.

I cannot vouch for the quality of the literature that Gillespie found in
archives, libraries, etc., but that he found a lot of it is very much
the case.

I have not seen or had a conversation with Gillespie in many years so
the situation may have changed; i.e., he may have published his results
in some form, or he may no longer be interested in the subject.
