Subj: [kl] Death of a great oboist
Date: Wed, 22 Nov 2000 16:35:28 -0500

One of America's finest oboists, Mark Lifshey, died recently in a
hospital in Portland, OR. He was the principle oboe at the Metropolitan
Opera, the Cleveland Symphony, the San Francisco Symphony, and most
recently was professor of oboe at Indiana.

He was a player of incomperable artistry and the several occasions I had
to work with him were all events made memorable by his splending
playing.

I know this is a clarinet list, of course, but some of you may have
known him.
