They also do not own Yamaha, which is a pretty big chunk of competition,

Yamaha and distributed them with the Bach name on them! It is also
interesting to note that Leblanc makes bass clarinets sold under the
Yamaha, Olds, and even Jupiter names. In any case, the indications are
that Steinway/Selmer will continue to operate UMI as a separate company,
although I would think that the Conn/King low brass expertise will
eventually lead them to sever the Yamaha-Bach link. And with any luck,
they will figure out a way to eliminate the Artley clarinet. Even making
it a stencil Bundy would be an improvement!
