To say this was careless. Such a representation may capture very well
some of the aspects of the sound that we are interested in, particularly
if the representation is refined by continued discussion and
explanation.

You'll find that your spectrum analyser is much less informative than
that.

What makes me so sure?

Why, because I've tried it myself, of course;-)
