I went to a MENC convention in California one year and present was some dealer
with 13 new clarinets on display. I don't remember the brand. A gent in his
mid 20's was using his own mouthpiece and played each clarinet on the table.
They all sounded similar until he played #13. That one had the magic. It was
awesome. What a difference. If I had had the cash on hand I would have bought
it myself. It was the same model as the first 12 but had a big beautiful tone
and he said it even played easier than the others. It pays to try a lot of
different clarinets so you can become familiar with how they sound, respond, and
the differences between brands including how they feel in your hands.
