As Walter and Dan insist, you can express it any way that has meaning for
you. But I'm waiting for descriptives that evoke the mental image of
sounds that I can relate to, e.g. less breathy - less bright - fewer random
overtones - stronger characteristic overtones. I don't personally object
to "contained" or "dark" or "covered" or "controlled"; but your statement
is a perfect example of the problems we face when describing a sound we're
not simultaneously hearing. They are different parts of the same elephant.
