I suppose that it's the *details* of how the piece was played that are
crucial. I'd want to know what it was about this 'individual'
interpretation that satisfied Stravinsky, as opposed to pissing him off.

I heard, on the contrary, that there was a famous clarinet player who
gave a very individual interpretation of the Three Pieces, and
Stravinsky, who was in the audience, walked out in the middle of the
second piece.

I've several times asked for corroboration of this story (for which I
can't remember the source) without success.

Anyone?

I 'sort of' remember that it was Cahuzac to whom Stravinsky took
exception.
