Welcome to the list, Stephanie

The variety is one of the strengths of this list.

I used to wonder, not understanding, that some teachers would say things
like--
I learn as much from my students as they learn from me.
These were almost always the most effective teachers and coaches.

But is have found in the past 3-4 years, that I do learn from almost
everyone:

The students who try what i suggest and find that it works.

The students who don't want to change anything and still occasionally
improve.

The students who try and the first suggestions do not help, and we
both have to investigate further to find the source of the problem.
(This can be frustrating, but often leads to the most useful insights and
new solutions, or variations and refinements of familiar ones.)

Just this week, i found the solution to one of my recent technical
limitations in identifying a more obvious version of the same problem
with a student. (And just the awareness of the solution has cleared
almost all of the problem.)

So I learn a lot from my students. And teachers, and the good conductors
that i work with. And the discussions and gripes and jokes on this list!
