Subj: [kl] The Computer -- spectral analysis for real?
Date: Sat, 18 Nov 2000 16:41:04 -0500

I did some programming when the Apple was so young that you didn't
receive a printed manual for it (only loose leaf mimeographed sheets),
no software, no upper/lower case, no disk drive, etc.
I quit programming many years ago, and the closest I've gotten to
owning a computer since then is this WebTV.

....but for the benefit of my daughter's education <heh! heh!>, I
bought a machine this week. The advertising bragged that you can use
the CD drive to play your own background music --- almost unimaginable
to me, but they promised --- and so I tried it today. The screen lit
up with a ragged sine wave. I suppose the screen is displaying
loudness only, but now I have to ask:

Is there any chance that a PC program (ifrom the IBM-compatible
world) can show me an elementary spectral analysis of my tone?

Thanks,
Bill
