Now that I think about it, why doesn't the register tube have this
effect? I would assume that the tube is as bulky as any of the knots
you tied, or perhaps bulkier than all of them put together.

I suppose so, but wouldn't it be easier to open up a random chapter
of The Hobbit trilogy? It's altogether too easy to forget how well
Tolkien wrote.
