Ahoy, Listmates!
If you happen to be in the Seattle area this Saturday night, come drop by
Luther Memorial Lutheran Church (at 130th NE and Greenwood) to hear the
Northwest Symphony Orchestra's chamber concert featuring northwest
composers. The bill of fare:
Symphony #8, Dell Wade
Clarinet Concerto, Joshua Kohl - featuring soloist Rick Faria
The Breakfast Table, David Mesler
The highlight of the evening -- for us clarinet addicts, anyway -- is
certainly the Kohl concerto. It's been performed before, so this is not a
premiere, but the composer has reorchestrated it for our performance. (To
be perfectly honest, he was tweaking some of the parts last night, so he may
not be quite finished spiffing it up). It has some very interesting
stylistic juxtapositions, and is a great deal of fun. Joshua is a young guy
with great ideas and boundless, infectious energy; I suspect we will hear &
play much of his music in the coming years.
We're honored to present Rick Faria as our soloist. He's a terrifically
nice guy, and as for his playing, well, he kicks butt. For info on Rick,
please see http://www.ithaca.edu/clarinet/.
If you're interested, more info on the concert can be found at
http://www.northwestsymphonyorchestra.org/.
Hope y'all can come!
