Do you have clarinets? Do you have string? Different sorts of string?
What more need I say?

....well, I have no desire to change the tuning of my clarinet.
So my question is idle curiosity.... but what would I hang the string
from? A bit of tape inside the barrel?
Surely you don't mean to sandwich the string between the tenon cork
and the tenon socket when you put the instrument together? The risk of
pressing a 'leaky groove' into the cork would be unacceptable, wouldn't
it?

And for that matter, why does this trick work? Changing the
lengths of instrument sections and adding new holes are obvious, but how
does a cord achieve its effect?
