For quite a while as a young man, Greenspan made his living as a jazz tenor
saxophonist. And, so did Leonard Garment, Washington insider and attorney
for Richard Nixon during the later days of the Watergate business. Then, we
mustn't forget that President Clinton was a pretty fair blues tenor
saxophonist at one time. So, the tenor saxophone seems to be a potential
unifying factor which can cut across all ethnic and political aspects of
public life. One thing seems sure, the next President, whoever that might
be, won't be a saxophone player. Maybe we would be better off if he were.
