The metal bass clarinet was actually called the "Military Model" as the
instrument was used for marching military bands. Unlike a wooden instrument,
the all metal model would not crack during extremely cold weather.
In my rare instrument collection, I have a Moennig metal oboe which is
also quite rare. I was told that a few metal bassoons were made by the
Moennig company as well.

It's now titled as a bass clarinet. The proportions (diameter to length,
cylindrical bore) show that it is indeed a member of the clarinet family.
