Katie,

Another valid cause of squeaks and squawks from a new player is mostly likely
a combination of: Toung placement, Embrasure strength, amount of pressure of
teeth (if any), finger coverings, breathing (according to reed, mouthpiece
and clarinet resistance) and a multitude of things I've failed to mention. I
do know that switching from an instrument that you are very familiar with the
ability and amount of resistance it took to play rather to a newer instrument
that is foreign to you might be a cause for the squeaks and squawks due to no
knowledge of what it takes (reed, mouthpiece ect..) to play the instrument.
