After a few months of enjoying klarinet in silence, I'd like to make a
few comments. These come from an intermediate player even older than
Bill Wright (grin).
~ The Extended Clarinets! CD is wonderful. I believe that anyone
with an interest in clarinet music would really enjoy it.
~Some time ago, a list member recommended the Hal Leonard
publication, "Master Solos Intermediate Level." (I believe it was
Georgia Calzeti, and if so, thank you and I hope I spelled your name
right). The solos are very approachable for an intermediate level
player with very helpful preliminary information and exercises for each
of the pieces.
~I worried a lot about being able to develop the ability to play at
increasing tempos. Just discovered Kalmen Opperman's "Velocity Studies
for the Clarinet." I have been working in the elementary book, (it
comes in 4 graded books), and am surprised and pleased with the early
results. Playing faster at some point no longer seems totally
impossible.
~I just got the "Intermediate Linear Clarinet Duets" from JB Linear,
a sneezy sponsor. The book is very well done and looks like it will be
lots of fun.
~(BTW, I have no financial interest in any of the music I
mentioned).
