During my very first conducting experience (second if you don't count the
sextet playing "Faith of our Fathers" in elementary school) I got to
conduct my high school band during a rehearsal. I got so nervous that my
palms got wet. The baton slipped and impaled itself in the cloth bell cover
of a sousaphone. It did break the ice. I don't remember anything about the
rehearsal after that.
