An instrument that has been sitting dormant for that long has probably dried
out (the wood, that is). The rings that give support to the receiving
sockets could be loose. DON'T ASSEMBLE until you have checked to see that
the rings are tight. The ring at the top of the bottom main joint is the one
that absolutely needs to be tight. If it is loose, and if the cork at the
bottom of the top main joint is quite full, there is a chance of splitting
the wood right into the top tone hole (the one covered by the bottom ring
key pad).

It might be best to have a repairman check it over before ever assembling it
or blowing a note on it. There are organic oils that soak into the wood
quite nicely and will lesson the sudden shock of moisture after such a long
dry spell.

Also, an instrument that has not been played for years will probably have
pads that have been tunneled into and eaten away by little critters.
Sometimes these mined holes cannot be seen without first removing the keys.

Do have it checked before playing it.
