Dear Tony,
I could have sworn you were one of several folks who helped with
with advice about my young student's "doubled-up" chin, but I was wrong.
I just checked back through all the messages, and it turns out that it
was Karl Krelove. He, like you, didn't have a doubled-up chin, either;
he just gave good advice. He (Karl) said (about her chin) " I wouldn't
dwell on this or any other bad habit she's built up over the past 2
years...."
Tony, I would like to think that I am improving with age. I'm 55
now, and maybe, like Mr. Weber, I'm getting worse. This year, after
performing in bars for 30 years or more, I semi-retired and began a
full-time career of performing in nursing homes, Hospice Centers,
country clubs and teaching 20 students. I hope you don't know everything
that happend to me in the bar business. There was a period of time in
the 80's when I tried to sing like Whitney Houston and Cyndi Lauper. It
was very humiliating and embarrassing and I was drunk a lot of the
time. I don't know how I kept from getting fired. I pretty much worked 6
or more nights a week since 1974 until Karaoke machines and DJ's became
popular in the mid 90's. Then I worked in a biker bar for 4 years.
Actually, my Janis Joplin imitation wasn't too bad, and my clarinet solo
on "Me and Bobby McGhee" was rather unique. My "Jethro Tull" was o.k.
(on flute) for a clarinetist. I was never able to twirl my flute, leap
through the air like a ballerina & catch it, then start flutter
toungueing like Ian Anderson. I barely made it through the flute tunes,
but the bikers couldn't tell the difference.
I haven't had a conversation about any musical term I can think of
for many years. There was a time when I was more worried about
accidentally getting hit by flying missiles from the dart team or
getting arrested for drunk driving, than I was about musical dialogues.
I do love performing more than anything in the world, and I'm so
sorry I was rude. Whoever it is who "knows everything about me" is
probably right. It's been downhill since the Karaoke machines came in.
ANNIE

Annie,
I`ve never had a bunched up chin, not even when I`m playing clarinet, not
even when I look in the mirror first thing in the morning, not even when I`m
with my wife after dinner out! After all my undisciplined eating tho`, I can
assure you that it is beginning to <double> up.

I now know ALL about you Annie, after mail from a certain other contributor
here, so I`m not surprised that I fell foul of one or two of your remarks.
So Annie, which direction is it safe for me to move to, north, south, east
or west. Or even somewhere over the rainbow?
Love Ya,
Tone.
I have to hold my hand up to AA, don`t I. His phrase "Jim`s ill-gotten
gains" is indeed of English origin. Jolly well done AA. (aside - "Bah!") :<)
