Dear Tony, Annie here again. It's o.k., Tony. That was kind of funny
about you and Bush. It's o.k. with me that you like to think about
words. I'm probabaly overly obsessed with my "tone". That's what Rose
Sperrazza (membership dir. of the ICA) said about me when she wrote the
article last month. I have a hard time with words, especially when we
have to use them to describe a musical process. As far as the "crescendo
into the soft note", I just can't describe it. All I know is that when I
hit the register key and hold the note and fade, that magical things
happen. It's almost more like an "ancient tonal remedy" than anything
resembling "decrescendo" (oops) or "diminuendo". ANNIE

Tony here again Annie,
I`m sure you agree that there are 1000`s of words which sound horrible, yet
we have to use some of them. Yes, it`s a topic not directly linked to the
clarinet - but then again it is - sort of.
All I`m doing is relating what my feelings are towards "that" word, a word
which I feel has a better alternative, a better understanding, without
misunderstanding, in the heat of the moment whilst playing. I`m not trying
to ram this down your throat, I`m not yelling at you or anybody, and I am to
being a genius, as what Bush is to sober driving. All I am doing is putting
forward my point of view, which you may certainly challenge. I welcome it.
That`s why I`m here. What you perhaps may have interpreted as yelling, (by
me?) was in fact my tongue in cheek approach to internet argument
instigation, if you can understand that perhaps silly phrase, (cos it`s
12.15 am here in UK, and I can`t sit around all night trying to find a
better one).
I`m sorry you missed your swimming lesson. Should I be flattered that you
had the interest to reply?!?! :<) Please be assured that I respect your
point of view. It`s just that mine is different.
I do hope you may continue to contribute "to and froing" our different(?)
points of view - different topics of course. I find that interesting, (when
I`ve got the time).
Finally, what you do say about "crescendo into a soft tone and then fade
away" does have me foxed a little, I must admit. If I re-phrase it this
way, - "crescendo, and then fade away into a soft tone", would I be near
what you originally meant?
And finally finally, we have discovered a "louden" in music written by
Vaughn Williams?, thanks to Ed Lacy.
I think this is also a horrible word. It means what it says, and says what
it means, it`s just that I think there are
better alternatives, which you have the full right to challenge.
