I did get to try out Clark Fobes wonderful student mouthpiece today at
the studio, in spite of all the arguments about "decrescendo" vs.
"diminuendo". I played on it all afternoon as I taught my students and
couldn't believe how good it sounded. I took the reed off my mouthpiece,
(Vandoren 5RV Lyre used today with the new Rico Evolution #3) and it
just played superbly (is that a "wrong" word?) I was able to go up into
the altissimo range, and did have a bit of a struggle with a double high
C, but my students don't need to be hitting that high at this point. I
went through every register carefully for tone & pitch as well as clean,
precise articulation, and I was totally amazed.
I was in a lesson with Jenny, a prize pupil, and had to tell her to
keep practicing for a minute while I went to the store owner to show him
how good the mouthpiece sounded. My student, Jenny, who will be a
Freshman at UNC in Greely, CO next fall, also liked the way it
responded, perhaps for her students.
Clark, because of the type of person I am, I am extremely picky
about just about everything related to clarinet playing. But I do love
your "Debut" student mouthpiece. I think you should consider marketing
it as the "stock" mouthpiece that goes with student clarinets say with
the Selmer & Buffet companies, Artley too (they make clarinets as well
as flutes).
The name of the store is GRANER MUSIC in Colorado Springs, and the
store owner's name is Mel Graner. I don't even know what their email
address is, but I'll get it Monday. ANNIE
