Dear Audrey,
This is Annie here, the one who used that horrible term,
"decrescndo". I have always prided myself in not being an intellectual.
The word "diminuendo" wouldn't have served my purposes either, because
when I hit the register key, I am actually crescendoing (is that also
bad English) into an immediate "soft" note that holds and fades. I am
the one who has to play my long tones, and I choose not to make a
"diminuendo" but to hold and fade. O.K.? You had to be there. The
process can't be described over the internet. It has to be demonstrated
in person. Anyhow, I am on my way to Kinko's to fax him the long tones.
I'm glad that I never made it to graduate school, nor will I ever,
except to participate in somebody elses concert. ANNIE
