British manufacturers have certainly made hard rubber instruments for
use in e.g. India - they had stainless (?) steel keys so the sulphur in the
rubber wouldn't turn the keywork black.
I knew someone in Oxford who played (and taught) using such an instrument -
Clinton system - up to ca. 1980.
