Reed tip buzz! Play a low G on the Bb clarinet and play it very

"hiss" I mentioned in the last post. Bite gently or squeeze a bit - do
you hear a bit of polution in the sound? If it is a "tinny" reed sound
or a "gritchy" (don't you just love these adjectives??) reed sound -
that's reed tip buzz.
Yes, unfortunately I have heard it too many times. That's why your
mention of "buzz" caught my eye.
When I posted recently about a reed jumping into the 2nd register
(without the register key), and I'm positive that I don't have air leaks
in my instrument, someone recommended sanding the tip of my reed gently
once or twice across the grain (as well as sanding the back, which I had
already done). So I sanded two gentle strokes across the tip, and it
helped the register problem, but it left me with enough 'buzz', even up
to open G, that I gave up on the reed.
<><> It is a phenomena that occurs when one or more of the
following happens:
1. =A0 =A0 biting or squeezing the reed
2. =A0 =A0 playing on a soft tipped (not a soft reed) reed
3. =A0 =A0 playing at soft levels (usually)

If I wanted to test whether a 'buzz' in the low notes was caused by
#2 above, what (if anything) would I do to the reed?
Thanks,
Bill
