Okay, folks, this is a new one for me! I have a student from a local
community college who has a pierced tongue - there's some kind of stud in the
center of her tongue, maybe 2 inches back or so. It's not readily visible
when she talks. Instinctively, I can't believe this can be a good thing for
her playing, but must admit I haven't heard any tonguing problems yet that I
can attribute to the presence of the piercing. It does not affect her speech
at all. Does anybody have any experience with this? Are there particular
tonguing problems associated with piercings? What should I be listening for?
Personal expression is well and good, but I'm still in shock that a clarinet
player would do this!
