Michael, I have a similar C Clarinet tale. My present C clarinet is a 1964
Selmer Series 9. It, too, is really quite respectable not because Selmer
did such a great job on it but because I did lots of surgery . Any note
below middle C was grossly flat. I increased the minimum bore from .570" to
.580" (about the diameter of your Noblet)... that cured that problem very
nicely. The throat tones were insanely sharp. I scrounged an old Series 9
Bb barrel and shortened it til it was about a quarter inch longer than the
original barrel. The throat tones fell into place. I eventually modified
the register vent and fitted the bottom joint with a Bb bell, to boot!
Selmer DID do a nice job on the key work and I only had to mess with a
couple of tone holes.
