Subject: Stolen clarinet pair

Dear Charette,

I'd be grateful if you could post the details about a pair of clarinets that
were stolen from me.

There were:

- a Bb Karl Hammerschmidt Klingson in black Granadilla wood, serial number
80907 with Vandoren Paris B45 mouthpiece
- an A Karl Hammerschmidt Klingson serial number 86236 and
- a brown leather carry case

NOTE. The distinguishing marks on the clarinets are that each part is
engraved with the initials "MRO" in cursive scripted letters.

I sold them to a man claiming to be Paul David Downs of 67 The Albany Flat
10, Woodcote Road, Wallington Surrey SM6 0PS (UK) who paid for them using a
fake Halifax banker's draft. His appearance is a dark brown complexion,
slight build, slim, almost gaunt, 5'10", aged about 35 years.

The police incident reference number is SX 2427693/00C (Metropolitan Police
Service, West End Central Division, 27 Savile Row, London Tel. +4420 7437
1212). My own telephone number is +4420 8264 0800, e-mail gary@-----.

I will fax you a copy of the police report form tomorrow, but in the
meantime, I believe that speed is of the essence. The fraudster will
probably try to sell the pair before the cheque "clears". This could take up
to 7 days. He probably assumed that I will deposit the cheque in my own bank
and that I would only learn about the fraud in a week's time.

I believe that this man routinely scans the classified sections of Loot (or
other free ads papers) in or around London and tries to buy relatively
valuable items from anyone who will accept payment by banker's draft. He
will arrange to view the item out of banking hours so that it is impossible
to verify the validity of the cheque.

Many thanks in advance.

Gary Orman
