Another anecdote:

The opening scenes when Benny Goodman is practicing is really Steve Allen
playing. Even Benny Goodman could not duplicate a beginner's playing!

Well, in the movie if you watch his fingers as the music of the last
movement of K. 622 is being played, you will see that they are about as
accurate as if he were playing "Marzy dotes." There is an apocraphyl
story that they had to reshoot several scenes when Goodman, who was
technical consultant, saw the rushes and realized that Allen had his
left and right hands in the wrong position on the clarinet.
