Subj: [kl] Hard Rubber Selmer

Well, i've been doing the ebay "thing", and bought a Selmer Paris hard
rubber clarinet (it was listed as "Resonite"). This is a Bb instrument=
,
full Boehm system instrument, with an "L" series serial number (early
'30s). Tone holes are not undercut, of course, and i haven't measured =
the
bore size yet. The instrument plays surprisingly well--a little stuffy=
,
perhaps, but leaks must be fairly minimal because the low Eb comes out
almost as well as an open G. I'll probably use it in outdoor band
concerts--the last one was about 50=B0F and i was afraid the wooden
instrument would crack (i couldn't quite bring myself to show up with a=

metal clarinet...). Sound is pretty nice, although intonation is a lit=
tle
finicky (perhaps i need a different bore of mouthpiece to accommodate
this--presumably--larger bore instrument?). I need to get used to the
extra keys on the lower joint.

I had not been aware that Selmer made anything other than wooden
instruments in Paris. This appears to be a professional quality instru=
ment
in hard rubber. Or am i off base? Any info on this one?
