...and in fact there's an even easier option. There's a piece of
shareware called "PopChar" which will give you the option of locating a
small icon in your menu bar which, when clicked, opens a window which
will show you all the characters available in your current font. If you
stop your pointer over the selected character, PopChar shows you the key
combination. If you release the mouse button, it inserts the character at
the insertion point in your document. there's a free version, and a pay
version with more bells and whistles. I don't know if there's a Widoze
version.

One problem with these characters is that some servers aren't capable of
handling the upper ASCII characters, and do funny things to the text of
the email. It's been the subject of discussion on a few computer lists
that I read. Evidently your mail only has to pass through one of these
servers to corrupt the text. It's just a small problem, but it can be
pretty annoying.
