Please, I would love to see this asshole sue me for harassment. There isn't a
jury in the USA that would award him 10 cents. This guy doesn't want any
attention, I suspect.
I never told the prospective buyers that the instrument was stolen property,
I told them the truth, that it might not technically be stolen, but that it
WAS stolen from me. I was hoping (and I was right) that musicians tend to
'stick together' when it comes to issues like this.
Thanks for all the supportive emails and suggestions. I just got home from
playing all day and there isn't much new news. I did send emails to the local
media (those TV 'let us help with your problem' type things) and I asked the
local union for help (perhaps they have contacts with the police union). I
called the local precinct, but the detective who handled my case is long gone.
In any case, as many of you probably suspect, the instrument technically
belongs to my insurance company, but I would still like to have whatever of
my personal items might still be in the case. Apparently all of my
mouthpieces are gone, but there might be some other things.
My father, who is an attorney, apparently tried calling the guy at home, but
he wasn't talking. He might be freaked out by all the attention he has
received, and I am grateful to all of you for putting the heat on. This may
be worked out soon. On the other hand, he might just be pissed and destroy
the thing. I will update the list tommorow when I hear something.
Let's at least hope that the NYPD hasn't sold my other instruments as well?
David Hattner, NYC.
