Hi everyone,

I have a beginning 6th grade clarinet student that gets frequent (not all the
time) headaches from playing. She does have braces for a bit longer. The
only reason that I can think of may be related to her jaw pressure (TMJ).
Also, her right thumb is perpendicular to the instrument instead of parallel
(relative). Since I have been working with her on this, her arm gets quite
tired, but her headaches started before I started working on her hand
position. Has anyone ever experienced quick headaches like this that
disappear quickly? Also any suggestions on teaching better hand position? I
have tried the 'baseball' and the 'handshake' methods.

Thanks,

Mary W. Balch
