Roger,
Here at MU, the School of Music scholarship requirements often require
that a student perform in 2 major ensembles. While we have 2 bands plus
Marching Band, and an orchestra that are considered "major"
ensembles (we do have a total of 4 bands).....students sometimes pick up a
secondary instrument and play in University Band, much like when we were
at Michigan. These students, however, are generally music education
majors and cannot be in one of the "major" ensembles due to student
internship committments. I believe, and I could be incorrect, that in
these cases, University Band does count as a "major" ensemble. It's great
to see music education majors gaining a proficiency on another instrument!
It'll only help them and our younger students!
