Since i started using double lip in 1995 (i've played since 1960-something)
i've been resting the clarinet on my knees. I don't *have* to-- i can play
standing up--but i feel more secure if i do. I feel less of a connection
between thumb and upper teeth as well, although i find that if i rely too
much on the knees and don't support sufficiently with my thumb, i can end
up with a looser embouchure than i really want. Such a setup certainly
precludes a lot of head motion, though!
Oh, and playing eefer requires that i put the case on my lap and the
clarinet on the case, if i play for a long time.
