Subj: [kl] embochure problems with a young student
Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2000 16:45:43 -0400

I have a 12 year-old student who just started studying privately with me
last week, who has been playing in the school band program for 2 years.
Unfortunately, she has a doubled-up chin and doesn't seem to have the
ability to play and point her chin at the same time. I have seen several
clarinetists who could not point their chin, including Stanley Drucker.
(I never have liked his tone).
Any suggestions? I gave her "permission" to carry a mirror around
and look at her embochure in the mirror. I was able to get her to curl
her lower lip over her teeth correctly, with a pointed chin. ANNIE
