I previously used the Moennig barrels, but found some notes were stuffy, =
while
others stuck out from the rest of the scale. Although the Moennig barrel =
fixed
a lot of the pitch problems, the sound was not as desirable, so I went ba=
ck to
the old barrels that came with my clarinets.

Now I have a Chadash barrel on both my Bb and A clarinets now. (Actually,=
I
just got my A Chadash barrel yesterday.) I was using the same barrel on b=
oth
my Bb and A clarinets previously, but that caused pitch problems on the A=

clarinet. It really is best to have a separate barrel for each, because y=
ou
can pick the barrel that corrects the pitch and sound deficiencies for ea=
ch
individual instrument. Like mouthpieces, all barrels play differently, an=
d you
should try out many barrels until you find the ones that correct the pitc=
h and
playing problems. What a difference it makes!

Try the barrels at your local store, Woodwind and Brasswind, Internationa=
l
Suppliers, Muncy Winds, or Weiner Music. You should be able to try out a =
few
of each size barrel at the store, or get some on consignment with a depos=
it
from one of the mail order companies. Or, if you are in the NYC area, try=

contacting Guy Chadash through his website at =

http://www.chadash-clarinet.com =

and set up an appointment to try some of the barrels. Happy hunting!
