This is true for all of us, IMO. One of the ideas that I perceive
in almost every discussion about music, including the 'Conductor'
thread, is that art (any form of art) reaches deeper into the average
person's existence than other activities do, and art strips away much of
the 'social lubrication'. Politics and economics have more practical
and immediate effects, but it is art that really cuts through the
protective layers and lays open the raw feelings.
And since a 'feeling' is a composite and an interaction of so many
different pathways, they often don't "make sense.'

What a labyrinth of contradictions this is!
