I have one in which the bell can (though it doesn't have to) be left attached.
Unless you *never* want to take it off, it's a bad idea - if cork is allowd to get wet often enough
without drying out, it becomes permanently deformed. Cracks down there are
not common, but this is also a good way to increase the risk of getting one.
