practice flutter tonguing in the upper register. Help!"
Deborah, I just recorded that piece with the San Francsico Opera and I =
know the part you are referring to. I played 2nd clarinet, but I =
beilieve the first part has a flutter on high "G" to G#? is that =
correct? The principal on the recording plays a trill there and it =
sounded fine.
However, it is possible to flutter tongue in the extreme register. You =
need to make the flutter with the tip of your tongue as opposed to your =
throat. For the upper register it helps to pull the clarinet into your =
body so that the mouthpiece tip is high in the mouthpiece and away from =
the tongue. It helps to use resistant fingerings when fluttering up =
there.=20
Also, if starting a tone with flutter, use a "hut" attack.
Good luck!
Clark
