Touche. I suppose it's necessary to make a few distinctions such
as "I presume that this piece will resolve to the tonic, but that's not
the same thing as 'going somewhere' "; and "After I heard the entire
piece, I felt as if I had made a journey rather than just standing in
front of a pretty picture and viewing it"; and "I know where this is
going because I've heard it before, but I want to take the journey
again."

Hmm.... if we can't even on what "dark" and "bright" mean, how can
we discuss a topic as metaphorical as this one? Yet the metaphor of
"taking a journey vs. enjoying a pretty picture" seems valid and
applicable to me. It does make sense.
