A hard rubber mouthpiece might be an extra cost option from the factory.
All of the ones we get in the store have standard 4C plastic mouthpieces,
but we order most of our Selmer clarinets and all Selmer saxophones with
the HS* and C* respectively packed in them at the factory, since that is
what most local band directors prefer. There are a few who specify other
things. One local school district was using B-44's for years with their
Yamaha clarinets, then switched one year to B-45's, then Jewels the next
year! (Note to band directors: This is NOT a nice thing to do to your
local music dealer, as it really louses up inventory and causes
considerable bother and expense. If you are contemplating such a change,
please allow plenty of lead time.)

We always try to have this information available in all our stores, but
getting it from the directors is often like pulling teeth!

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is too loud.
