It is a great march isn't it? Beyond Sousa's marches (which I really enjoy
when done imaginatively), the English marches are just great. I love the
Alford (both Alfords - Harry and Kenneth) marches as well as Gordon Jacob,
Gustav Holst, Eric Coates, and a bunch of other really wonderful English
composers. They really knew how to write for band and, especially, for
brass and percussion. Favorites:

The Vanished Army - Alford
Voice of the Guns - Alford
A Step Ahead -Alford
Army of the Nile - Alford
Colonel Bogey (already mentioned) - Alford
Knightsbridge - Coates
Dam Busters - Coates

and marches from Suites:

No. 6 March from Music for A Festival by Jacob
Mvt. 1 from An Original Suite by Jacob
Mvt. 1 from William Byrd Suite by Jacob
Mvt 3 from Suite No. 1 in Eb by Holst
Mvt 1 from Suite No. 2 by Holst

But somewhere a little voice is telling me that we have visited this
discussion before...........I should check the archives before going any
further.

Sincerely,
Roger Garrett
